The history of this Bay was recorded among the great adventures of commercial exchanges which took place at the wake of the XVIs when two Portuguese navigators decided to name this land after them, calling it Diego Suarez. It is a concentrated mixture of civilizations composed of Yemenis, Somalis, Chinese, Indians and Bantus.
Just like the mixed population, the landscape is characterized by a diversity of scenery due to the presence of various micro climates: an astonishing formation of limestone, a great number of caves which are the niche of lime deposits unfolding into draperies like a huge cloth, a unique maze of forests…
Let us not forget the marine sites either. Located at the centre, the Diego bay, an immense natural harbor and member of the exclusive “Society of the best bays in the world”, has in store many other small paradise spots to be discovered: Ramena, Orangea, Baie des Cailloux, Baie des Français, so many evocative names which suggest the unfolding beauties of these rich coastal areas.
